An old theory, by which gas bubbles in water can cause ships to sink, has now been verified by experiments. The New Scientist story is here. It is suggested that the effect at Bermuda Triangle is due to the methane gas released at the seabed. I'm curious as to why this was not tried before - I first heard the theory around 1993.
